South Africa vs England Cricket World Cup 1997 Super 8

Cheers South Africa, you did well in the Last Chance Saloon.Well hats off first to the South African team, what an awesome display especially from that shoot fighter Andrew Hall.Being dropped countless times and shot 6 times has not kept him down.Excellent reverse swing bowling gave him the figures 5-18 which would have made old masters like Waqar and Wasim proud. Also hats off to the SA selectors on tour who had the bravery to drop Ntini after having a poor World Cup so far.Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton were scathing in their lambasting of English tactics which was fair.England still seem to be playing the same sort of tactics that were prevalent in their era.Weaknesses are so many of the English ODI time, I will just mention a few.
1. Top Order has no power hitters.
2. There is way to much pressure on Pieterson , when he comes in, there no solid base for him to build on because of early wickets falling and slow run rate from top order. Then he has to be the anchor man and up the scoring rate which will be hard on anybody.
3. Flintoff way to inconsistent to be a number 6 batsman in ODI's.
4. Bowlers with exception of Flintoff having a lack of experience. No swing for Anderson means he usually ends up going.Sajid Mahmood, Im not sure what he is doing in the side.
The batting from South Africa showed England the way forward as they knocked off the total in +- 19 overs. It was a statement of intent and bodes well for their semi most likely against Australia. The final before the final, but that is a rant for another day.
